Content
The agricultural sector plays a dual role in the current climate challenges. Globally this sector is second-contributor of global greenhouse gases (GHGs) and next to these emissions, large scale farming contributes to pollution, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, animal welfare and health concerns. At the same time, the impacts of climate change negatively affect this sector, threatening production/yield and therefore sustainable food security. In order to reduce/counteract these problems, in the Netherlands, a transformative system change towards sustainable agriculture in the Dutch Agricultural System is required.
Knowledge and its infrastructure play a pivotal role in the current agricultural system and in a transition via transformative change. The various actors in the Dutch Agricultural System have different interests, sources, behavior, goals, concerns, intentions, power, etc., resulting in an uneven, influenced ‘knowledge playing field’. Therefore the development of a sustainable knowledge infrastructure is essential to guide this transition. My research project will explore how such a knowledge infrastructure in the Netherlands can be developed, designed and implemented, in order to support the transition towards sustainable, regenerative agriculture.
