Responsible scaling of data-driven approaches for enhancing mental healthcare
Department of Sustainable Development (Copernicus Institute), Faculty of Geoscience, Utrecht University
Supervisors: prof.dr. Wouter Boon, dr. Lotte Krabbenborg
Background
Pascalle obtained a BA in Digital Society with a Minor in Psychology (cum laude) and a Research MSc in Cultures of Arts, Science and Technology (cum laude) from Maastricht University. Following her interest in emerging healthcare technologies, her MSc thesis explored underlying assumptions about ‘normal’ grieving embedded in framings and portrayals of AI grief technologies.
Content
The NWO-funded project ResponScale (http://responscale.sites.uu.nl) focuses on the responsible scaling of digital innovations in the field of mental healthcare, where there is a need for improving accessibility, efficiency, and quality of care. I will develop theories and methods for responsible scaling by studying how innovators and other stakeholders can already from the start of the innovation process take important considerations like user values or ethical concerns into account. My project will involve several components, including literature reviews, explorative interviews, and ethnographic fieldwork to diagnose patterns regarding enablers and constraints of upscaling, and to explore possible future pathways for responsible scaling in mental healthcare.
