Resilience and appropriate care

Heath Care Governance, Erasmus School of Health Policy & Management, Erasmus University Rotterdam

Supervisors: prof.dr. Roland Bal, prof.dr. Diana Delnoij, dr. Bert de Graaff

Background

I did my bachelor’s in health sciences at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. I there also did my minor in finance. I then did my master’s in Health Care Management at the Erasmus University. I thought at the university as a tutor for a few months and then started my PhD.

Content

My PhD research explores the resilience of healthcare systems during crises and disasters, focusing on the role of independent regulatory agencies. Specifically, I examine how these agencies contribute to healthcare system resilience, particularly in relation to the concept of appropriate care. My first paper analyzes the role of the Dutch National Health Care Institute during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Netherlands. Building on these findings, I will conduct case studies on resilience practices within independent regulatory agencies. Key theoretical frameworks include institutional theory, path dependency, governance, and resilience. By investigating how regulatory agencies shape and respond to crises, my research aims to provide insights into their influence on healthcare resilience and the broader pursuit of appropriate care.
