Invitation WTMC Annual Meeting,13 December 2019
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
1017 RR Amsterdam
The day will start with an update about WTMC policy issues, incoming events and the new “WTMC Series on Teaching and Learning”.
Then Annalisa Pelizza will chair a Round-table “Towards an STS approach to identification?” with Jess Bier, Amade M’Charek, Victor Toom and Sally Wyatt. Identity is epistemologically and materially interwoven with the technologies that are utilized to know it. How can STS further more reflexive, encompassing and trustful identification processes?
After lunch, we will discuss the recent book “Environmental Expertise” edited by Esther Turnhout, Willemijn Tuinstra, and Willem Halffman.
Then Dani Shanley and Andrea Wojcik will host a panel of WTMC PhD candidates on “STS and Engagement”: What is the difference between activism and engagement in STS? How do early career scholars who hope to change the world, or at least not damage it, navigate this difference?
In the second half of the afternoon, we will hear and discuss with Ruth Müller her ideas about “Health, Wealth and the Epigenome”. Ruth is based at the Munich Center for Technology in Society (MCTS).
All are welcome – PhD members, retired members and everyone interested in the topics we will be discussing (also if not a member of WTMC).
Book your place here. Please register by 29 November!
Remember to bring copies of recent publications – books, articles, posters – to display.
